  • Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is to meet in Runcorn for the first time as part of Mayor Steve Rotheram’s manifesto commitment to take decision-making into local communities.

  • The Mayor pledged to strengthen local democracy by rotating CA meetings around the city region’s six local authority areas of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.

  • This month’s meeting will take place in Halton for the first time – being held at Runcorn Town Hall at 1pm tomorrow (Friday).

  • Items to be discussed include grant funding for sustainable transport schemes, including improving railway station accessibility, a presentation of the Vision Zero strategy to reduce death and injury on the roads, and a £2m boost for Bootle and Seaforth, including the Salt and Tar venue.

  • Mike Wharton, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade, and leader of Halton Borough Council, will also present a report on the CA’s Investment Strategy.

  • Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said:

  • “Halton is such an integral part of the Liverpool City Region, so I’m really pleased we’re hosting this important meeting in Runcorn for the first time.

  • “Democracy works best when people feel connected to the decisions that shape their lives. Politicians need to understand the places they represent and the people who live there. That’s why I’ve committed to making local democracy stronger and more transparent, ensuring decisions are made with communities, not just in boardrooms.”

  • Councillor Mike Wharton, Leader of Halton Borough Council and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade, said:

  • “Holding the Combined Authority’s meetings around the city region is a tangible sign that we are serious about the importance of people from all corners of our city region being involved in decision-making and being able to see the decisions being made that will benefit their communities.  I am very proud that Halton is hosting the first of these meetings that will rotate around the six member councils.”
