Mayor Steve Rotheram has welcomed the Government’s new Life Sciences Sector Plan, published today.

Liverpool City Region is a health and life sciences powerhouse fuelled by world-leading innovation, with collaboration in its DNA. Its Life Sciences Innovation Zone will take the City Region’s life sciences to the next level, with the potential to drive up to £800m of Government and private investment and create 8,000 jobs, alongside the region’s target to invest 5% of its economic output in R&D by 2030 – nearly double the national target.
The new plan sets out a comprehensive roadmap built around three core pillars:
Welcoming the new plan, Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:
“The Liverpool City Region is already home to some of the most exciting health and life sciences assets anywhere in the country – but this new plan should give us the platform to go even further, even faster.
“Our Life Sciences Innovation Zone is already beginning to unlock up to £800m in public and private investment and create 8,000 high-quality jobs – all built on our unique strengths in infectious disease research, biomanufacturing and digital health.
“We’re targeting economic growth with purpose; building an economy that works for people, where scientific discovery translates into better outcomes for patients and communities.
“We’re ready to work hand-in-hand with government to help realise the full potential of UK life sciences, and show how places like the Liverpool City Region can play its part to help deliver better health outcomes and stronger economic growth for everyone.”
