Coffee, cakes and waterfront views as Discovery Café reopens its doors at Seacombe

Visitors to Seacombe Ferry Terminal can once again enjoy freshly prepared food and drink at the Discovery Café, which has reopened under new management.

Open seven days a week and operated by local catering specialist Crosby Fresh, the Discovery Café is set to become a bustling new destination at the heart of the terminal.

Offering an enticing selection of breakfasts, lunches, snacks and refreshments, the café will welcome ferry passengers, commuters, visitors to Eureka! Science + Discovery, local residents, and anyone exploring the stunning River Mersey waterfront.

The Crosby Fresh team is already becoming a hit with passengers aboard the Snowdrop and will also be providing catering services on the new Royal Daffodil when she sets sail later this year.

Councillor Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome visitors back to the Discovery Café and to see this much-loved space at Seacombe Ferry Terminal brought back to life.

“The café is an important part of the overall visitor experience at Seacombe and its reopening reflects our wider ambition to strengthen and grow the Mersey Ferries offer as one of the most iconic visitor attractions in the UK.

“As we prepare to welcome the Royal Daffodil into service later this year, we’re not just investing in a new vessel. We’re investing in the whole customer journey, from our terminals and waterfront facilities to the experience passengers enjoy onboard.”

Crosby Fresh will be serving up a new menu focused on quality ingredients, homemade food and locally sourced produce while creating a warm and welcoming space for visitors.

The reopening forms part of wider plans to enhance the Mersey Ferries experience, with investment focused on improving facilities, attracting more visitors to the waterfront and creating a high-quality customer experience both onshore and onboard.

Building on the success of the multi-million-pound refresh of Seacombe Ferry Terminal and landing stage in 2022, the new café arrives as anticipation grows for the launch of the Royal Daffodil later this year, the first new Mersey Ferry to enter service in more than 60 years.

Painted in Mersey Ferries’ historic red, white and black colours, the new ferry features a contemporary main-deck lounge, modern bars, and spacious open-plan decks where passengers can relax and enjoy stunning views across the River Mersey.

The vessel has also been created with versatility in mind, with dedicated event spaces that transform the ferry into a unique venue for conferences, corporate functions, and private celebrations, offering an iconic setting on the waterfront.
